Pause for a moment and take in the surroundings & the sound of rustling leaves, chirping birds and trickling streams, the sight of a glowing sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains, the feeling of being immersed in nature and of time standing still. This is Shenandoah National Park the home of Skyline Drive and endless natural beauty. The legendary Shenandoah River provides opportunities for swimming, fishing, canoeing, tubing or kayaking. Here, you and your family can leave it all behind and enjoy 5 days of unplugging from the everyday and reconnecting with the outdoor.

Skyland Resort
encompasses 36 acres in the Shenandoah National Park with 28 buildings situated on 16 of those acres along the crests and wooded areas. Stables located nearby, horseback riding on designated trails is a wonderful way to experience Shenandoah National Park and a guided ride over the park's wooded trails will give you a whole new appreciation of their splendor. Pony rides are available for smaller children 5 years and older. Skyland lets you leave the hi-tech world behind so you can immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature.

UPCOMING EVENTS

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — On Thursday, June 16th, 2011, just three and a half miles from Ground Zero aboard one of the nation’s most distinguished aircraft carriers, the Third Annual Wounded Warriors Family Support Initiative will be hosted at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City. The event will begin at 6:30pm and will include a top-shelf bar provided by generous liquor sponsors, hors devours and canapés, live music, an international DJ, and celebrity entertainment. The evening will also include a keynote address by Vietnam veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Captain Paul ‘Bud’ Bucha.

FORT WALTON BEACH — Maj. Brian Luce, a pilot with the 8th Special Operations Squadron, is in the running for Eagle Rare Single Barrel Bourbon’s Rare Life Award.

Luce was a co-pilot in the CV-22 Osprey that crashed in Afghanistan last April. He spent months recovering "from multiple breaks to his lower left leg and a crushed L1 vertebrae," according to his nomination.

Washington: A donkey in Baghdad is in the centre of a custody battle involving a marine, now back in the US, a sheikh and an Iraqi family that has demanded $30,000 to give him up.

Affectionately called Smoke, the donkey wandered onto a US military base in Baghdad two years ago and won the hearts of the men there. Now, a retired Marine colonel wants to bring Smoke from Iraq to Nebraska to work with the children of soldiers who have been killed or wounded, the Christian Science Monitor reported.
